WHO ARE WE?

BACKGROUND

Hoops 4 Her is a nonprofit founded by Fina Kessler, a Junior at Shawnee Mission East High School in Kansas City. After attending a week-long summer camp hosted by the Pangea Network, she was encouraged to start her own "Take Action Challenge". The goal was to create and carry out a project over the next year to impact a community or cause they care about. This is where the idea for Hoops 4 Her began.

Fina is a basketball player at her high school and wanted to use her passion for the sport as the foundation for her project. She has also traveled to Kenya multiple times with her family, where she observed her mother's work in public health. On her last trip, they visited a local school and brought soccer balls for the students. Fina noticed the lack of sports equipment and the limited opportunities for girls to engage in sports. This is when her vision really came together. Because she is a female athlete herself, she can understand the power and opportunities that sports can bring to women and wanted to be able to share this with girls all around the world, starting in Kenya. This sparked Fina's devotion to carry-out Hoops 4 Her and host it's first all-girls basketball camp next summer in Kenya!

Mission and Goal

Hoops 4 Her's mission is to empower girls through the sport of basketball, fostering self-confidence, leadership, community, and more! We are building an organization that uses camps and events to empower girls in underprivileged areas through basketball. Our overall goal is to empower girls to reach their full potential, and hope to do so with many more events to come.
